In this recurring series, <strong>On This Day in Bulgaria<\/strong>, we look back at notable events, decisions, and milestones that happened on this date across the country&#8217;s history.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>September 2, 1885 \u2014 Unification Demonstrations in Panagyurishte<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Popular demonstrations demanding the unification of Bulgaria broke out in the historical town of Panagyurishte. Led by local activists of the secret revolutionary committee, citizens gathered in the streets, raising the national flag and declaring their readiness to fight for national integrity. These protests acted as a powerful catalyst for the wider movement.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>September 2, 1944 \u2014 Formation of the Muraviev Government<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In the final stages of World War II, Konstantin Muraviev formed a new government in Sofia. The administration attempted to distance Bulgaria from Nazi Germany and negotiate an armistice with the Allies.
