This action served as the official catalyst for the Unification movement, prompting other towns to rise up and military units to march towards Plovdiv.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>September 5, 1944 \u2014 Soviet Union Declares War on Bulgaria<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Despite Bulgaria&#8217;s declaration of neutrality and attempts to negotiate an armistice, the Soviet Union officially declared war on the Kingdom of Bulgaria.
