In this recurring series, <strong>On This Day in Bulgaria<\/strong>, we look back at notable events, decisions, and milestones that happened on this date across the country&#8217;s history.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>September 21, 1908 \u2014 Prince Ferdinand Arrives in Rousse<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Prince Ferdinand I arrived in the Danube city of Rousse, where he was met by Prime Minister Aleksandar Malinov. It was during this secret meeting on the ship *Krum* that the final decision was made to proclaim Bulgaria&#8217;s independence the following day at Veliko Tarnovo, ending the country&#8217;s vassal status to the Ottoman Empire.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>September 21, 1923 \u2014 Formation of the Revolutionary Committee<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Bulgarian Communist Party established a General Revolutionary Committee composed of Georgi Dimitrov, Vasil Kolarov, and Todor Lukanov.
