Many Bulgarians were bitterly disappointed that large Bulgarian-populated regions had remained under Ottoman rule. The uprising began in the Kresna area and spread into parts of the Razlog region, combining local armed resistance with the wider national hope for unification. Although the rebels achieved temporary successes, they lacked the resources, coordination, and international support needed for a lasting victory. The movement was eventually suppressed, but it remained a powerful expression of the unresolved national question after 1878 and a reminder that Liberation did not end all Bulgarian struggles.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>October 5, 1912 \u2014 The First Balkan War Begins<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>On October 5, 1912, the First Balkan War began for Bulgaria and its allies in the Balkan League. Bulgaria, Serbia, Greece, and Montenegro fought the Ottoman Empire with the shared goal of driving it from most of its remaining European territories. For Bulgaria, the war was presented as both a military campaign and a national cause, especially because of Macedonia and Thrace. Bulgarian armies soon achieved major victories in Thrace, including the advance toward Adrianople and the battles around Lozengrad and Lyule Burgas. The war transformed the regional balance of power, but its aftermath also exposed rival claims among the allies.
