The siege of Adrianople would be one of the defining operations of the First Balkan War, testing Bulgarian siege capabilities against some of the most modern fortifications in south-eastern Europe.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>October 15, 1946 &#8212; Georgi Dimitrov Returns to Bulgaria<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Georgi Dimitrov &#8212; the celebrated Bulgarian communist leader who had defied the Nazis at the Leipzig fire trial of 1933 and served as head of the Communist International &#8212; returned to Bulgaria from the Soviet Union to lead the new communist government.
