King Boris III signed it into law on January 21, 1941. The act introduced antisemitic restrictions and aligned Bulgaria\u2019s domestic legislation with the racial policies of Nazi Germany, even before the country formally joined the Tripartite Pact. It limited civil rights, professional opportunities, property rights, and public life for Jewish citizens. The law remains one of the darkest moments in modern Bulgarian history. It also forms part of the wider story of wartime Bulgaria: the persecution of Jews in territories under Bulgarian administration and the later rescue of Bulgaria\u2019s Jewish citizens from deportation.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>December 24, 1947 \u2014 Private Industrial Enterprises Are Nationalized<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>On this day in 1947, privately owned industrial enterprises in Bulgaria were nationalized by law. The measure was one of the decisive steps in the communist transformation of the country\u2019s economy after World War II. Factories, workshops, and industrial assets passed into state hands, and private entrepreneurship was pushed out of the commanding sectors of economic life. Nationalization was presented by the new authorities as a socialist restructuring of production, but it also eliminated independent economic power and tied industry directly to party-state planning.
