Dimitrov\u2019s courtroom defense became internationally famous, especially because he challenged Nazi accusations directly and turned the trial into a political confrontation. The acquittal did not end the tragedy of the Nazi regime, but it made Dimitrov one of the most recognizable communist figures in Europe. Later, after World War II, he became Bulgaria\u2019s communist leader and prime minister.
