January 25, 1879 \u2014 The Bulgarian National Bank Is Established<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Bulgarian National Bank was established when Prince Aleksandr Dondukov-Korsakov, Russian Imperial Commissioner in Bulgaria, endorsed its first Articles of Association. The BNB became one of the key institutions of the newly liberated Bulgarian state. A functioning national bank was essential for currency, credit, public finance, and economic confidence \u2014 without it, political independence had little practical foundation.<\/p>\n

In the difficult years after Liberation, Bulgaria needed institutions that could turn autonomy into practical administration. The bank’s establishment helped organize financial life and supported the gradual construction of a modern economy. King Boris III decreed the nationalization of radio broadcasting, and Bulgarian National Radio marks this date as its official birthday.
