Braila was one of the most important centres of Bulgarian \u00e9migr\u00e9 life, home to newspapers, schools, revolutionary circles, and cultural organizations that helped Bulgarians imagine a modern public existence beyond Ottoman rule.<\/p>\n<p>Theatre in that context was not entertainment alone.
