The bombing was part of the wider Allied campaign against Axis-aligned Bulgaria, but for civilians in the capital it meant fire, loss, and the sudden collapse of familiar streets and neighbourhoods.<\/p>\n<p>Urban bombing collapses the distance between front and home, making ordinary life part of the battlefield.
