June 3 brings together two forms of organised public life in Bulgaria: a major political party of the post-Liberation era and a pioneering civic conservation movement.<\/p>\n

June 3, 1894 \u2014 Konstantin Stoilov\u2019s People\u2019s Party Is Founded<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On June 3, 1894, the People\u2019s Party was founded in Sofia under the leadership of Konstantin Stoilov, then prime minister of the Principality of Bulgaria. The organisation brought together figures associated with the former People\u2019s Party of Eastern Rumelia and other conservative political circles.<\/p>\n

Stoilov was a lawyer and experienced statesman. He sought to restore institutional stability after the turbulent government of Stefan Stambolov. The party\u2019s appearance shows how political life after Liberation gradually organised itself around different views of government, the role of institutions and the direction of the state.<\/p>\n

The People\u2019s Party belonged to a period when parties and parliamentary practices were still taking shape. Its establishment was therefore an important moment in the formation of the political system of the young Principality.<\/p>\n

June 3, 1988 \u2014 Bulgaria\u2019s First Modern Civic Conservation Group Is Created<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On June 3, 1988, the constituent assembly of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds took place. The Bulgarian Telegraph Agency describes it as the first civic nature-conservation organisation in Bulgaria\u2019s most recent history.<\/p>\n

Its creation was significant because it came before the democratic changes of 1989, when independent civic initiatives had limited room to operate. The organisation brought people together around the protection of birds and nature, showing that public activity could develop outside official institutional frameworks.<\/p>\n

Conservation work requires observation, scientific knowledge, volunteering and persistence. It turns concern for nature from a personal feeling into a shared civic cause.<\/p>\n
