The step followed the Russo-Turkish War and the Treaty of Berlin, which built Bulgarian institutions while keeping the principality formally under Ottoman suzerainty.<\/p>\n<p>Official contact was essential for handling trade, borders, minority questions and the tangled legal bond between Sofia and Constantinople. The young state had to assemble its own administration and international standing while working within the limits set at Berlin&#8212;practical diplomacy rather than ceremony, and part of the groundwork that led to the declaration of full independence in 1908.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>June 19, 1987 &#8212; The National Earth and Man Museum Opens in Sofia<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>On June 19, 1987, the National Earth and Man Museum opened in Sofia.
