July 14, 1877 — Consolidating the Liberation Campaign<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In the weeks following the Russian crossing of the Danube, combined Russian and Bulgarian volunteer forces continued consolidating liberated territories across northern Bulgaria. The advance southward was gathering pace, setting the stage for the pivotal battles around the Shipka Pass and Pleven that would define the rest of the Russo-Turkish War.<\/p>\n

July 14, 1879 — Diplomatic Relations with France<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Bulgaria established formal diplomatic relations with France, one of the great European powers of the era. The move reflected the young principality’s ambition to build a broad network of international ties in its first year of autonomous existence, and deepened the cultural and political connections between Bulgaria and Western Europe that would develop over the following decades.<\/p>\n
