September 9, 1944 — Fatherland Front Coup d’État
A coalition of left-wing parties, led by the Fatherland Front and backed by the entering Red Army, executed a coup d’état in Sofia. The monarchist government was overthrown, establishing a new administration led by Kimon Georgiev. This date marked the beginning of decades of communist rule and a major geopolitical shift for Bulgaria.
September 9, 1972 — Diplomatic Relations with Bangladesh
Bulgaria officially established diplomatic relations with the newly independent People’s Republic of Bangladesh. This move was part of Bulgaria’s active foreign policy to expand its diplomatic and economic presence in South Asia, supporting newly formed states in the post-colonial era.
