September 15, 1918 — Breakthrough at Dobro Pole
During the First World War, Allied forces launched a decisive offensive on the Macedonian front, breaking through the Bulgarian defensive lines at Dobro Pole. This breakthrough fractured the Bulgarian army, triggering a general retreat and widespread anti-war protests among the soldiers, who marched toward Sofia in what became the Vladaya Rebellion.
September 15, 1946 — Bulgaria Declared a People’s Republic
Following the referendum of September 8, the newly elected Grand National Assembly officially declared the establishment of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria. This declaration formalized the abolition of the monarchy, ending the reign of the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha dynasty and initiating the formal transition to a socialist state model.
