August 13, 1877 — The Siege of Pleven Deepens
Russian and Bulgarian forces tightened their encirclement of the Ottoman fortress at Pleven (Plevna), where General Osman Pasha commanded a large and well-supplied garrison. The siege would become one of the longest and most gruelling operations of the entire Russo-Turkish War, lasting until December 1877 and costing enormous casualties on both sides before Osman Pasha’s final surrender.
August 13, 1892 — Euxinograd Palace Completed
The Euxinograd palace and estate near Varna was completed, serving as a summer residence for the Bulgarian royal family. Set on the Black Sea coast amid extensive gardens in the French style, Euxinograd became one of the most beautiful estates in the Balkans. Today it operates as a state residence and winery, producing wines under the Euxinograd label that are exported across Europe.
