December 14, 1880 — The Supreme Audit Office Act Is Passed

December 14, 1955 — Bulgaria Becomes a Member of the United Nations
On this day in 1955, Bulgaria became a member of the United Nations. For Bulgaria, UN membership provided formal participation in the postwar international system and opened a broader diplomatic stage beyond the constraints of bloc politics. The step did not remove the realities of Bulgaria’s alignment with the Soviet-led Eastern Bloc, but it gave the country a seat in the global forum where questions of peace, development, law, and international cooperation were debated.
