July 28, 1014 — The Battle of Belassitsa

Byzantine forces under Emperor Basil II defeated the Bulgarian army at the Battle of Belassitsa, one of the most consequential defeats in medieval Bulgarian history. The battle led to the eventual fall of the First Bulgarian Empire a few years later and remains one of the most sombre chapters of the era.

July 28, 1967 — Supporting Bulgarian Craftsmanship

A Guild of Arts and Crafts Masters was established in Sofia, formally recognizing and supporting the country’s tradition of skilled artisans and craftspeople.
