November 28, 1898 — Bulgaria’s First Large Industrial Enterprise Opens in Sofia
On November 28, 1898, the Belgian-owned Sucreries Raffineries Bulgares company opened a sugar factory in Sofia. In the decades after Liberation, Bulgaria remained largely agrarian, with most people living in villages and working the land. November 28, 1956 — Nikola Stanchev Becomes Bulgaria’s First Olympic Champion
