September 1, 1885 — Secret Committee Meets in Eastern Rumelia

The Bulgarian Secret Central Revolutionary Committee (BSCRC) held a crucial meeting in Plovdiv to finalize the plans for the upcoming unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and the autonomous Ottoman province of Eastern Rumelia. The organizers coordinated with local military officers and political figures, setting the stage for the historic event that would take place just five days later.

September 1, 1916 — Bulgaria Declares War on Romania

During the First World War, the Kingdom of Bulgaria declared war on Romania, initiating the Dobruja campaign. Bulgarian forces, allied with Germany and Austria-Hungary, sought to reclaim the region of Southern Dobruja, which had been ceded to Romania following the Second Balkan War in 1913. The campaign was highly successful and ended with the restoration of the territory under Bulgarian control.
