September 4, 1877 — Siege of Pleven is Established

Following several unsuccessful direct assaults, the combined Russian and Romanian forces decided to fully encircle the fortress of Pleven. General Eduard Totleben was appointed to oversee the siege operations. This strategy eventually forced the Ottoman army under Osman Pasha to surrender, marking a turning point in the war.

September 4, 1974 — Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant Opens

Bulgaria’s first nuclear power plant at Kozloduy was officially inaugurated with the commissioning of its first reactor. This milestone transformed Bulgaria into a major energy producer in the Balkans and marked a new era of industrialization and technological development for the country during the late 20th century.
