September 18, 1918 — Entente Troops Take the Offensive against the Bulgarian Army
On this day in 1918, Entente troops took the offensive against the Bulgarian army on the Southern Front during World War I. The assault followed the breakthrough at Dobro Pole and placed Bulgaria’s exhausted forces under severe pressure. By this stage of the war, shortages, low morale, and years of fighting had weakened the army and the home front. The offensive quickly became a strategic crisis, helping trigger military collapse, soldier unrest, and the chain of events that led to the Salonica Armistice later that month. September 18 therefore belongs to the final dramatic phase of Bulgaria’s participation in World War I.
September 18, 2008 — Bulgarian Energy Holding Is Established
On this day in 2008, Bulgarian Energy Holding was set up as a wholly state-owned joint-stock company. The holding brought together key state energy assets and became an important structure in Bulgaria’s electricity, gas, coal, and nuclear energy sectors.
