September 18, 1885 — Sava Mutkurov Takes Command in Plovdiv
Major General Sava Mutkurov officially assumed command of all armed forces in southern Bulgaria (the former Eastern Rumelia) following the Unification. His primary task was to coordinate the defense of the region and prepare the army for a potential Ottoman counterattack or Serbian invasion, demonstrating exceptional organizational and military leadership.
September 18, 1923 — Anti-Government Protests in Sofia
Despite martial law, public demonstrations occurred in Sofia, organized by workers and left-wing organizations demanding democratic freedoms, an end to arbitrary arrests, and the release of political prisoners. The government used military force to disperse the crowds, further intensifying the political polarization before the outbreak of the main uprising.
